With increasing travel costs and decreasing budgets, traditional classroom educational programs have become more difficult to attend, especially for busy professionals. Fortunately, advancements in the delivery of comprehensive distance-based programs have occurred to where comparable, and in many cases, superior educational experiences can be provided.

CERTI is proud to be a developer of distance-based educational programs in environmental health, as well as specialty areas such as radon, that integrate several educational inputs to provide a rich learning experience at a pace that fits the user’s busy schedule and learning rates.

CERTI Programs Are More than Simple Online Programs

Standard online courses that require a student to read online text and take a quiz can be extremely tedious, especially for long programs that would require a student to be glued to a computer screen for hours on end. Alternatively, CERTI uses the Internet to supplement educational programs such as audio CDs or downloadable audio programs where the student can listen to the program in the convenience of their car or on their MP3 players, while they drive or multi-task. The Internet connected computer is then used to for quizzes that provide immediate feedback and generate course completion certificates as well as communicate with instructors. It is this approach when combined with recordings of experts in the field and supportive videos that provide a multiple input and comprehensive educational experience.

    Those that have used books-on-tape to reduce the tedium of a cross-country drive certainly understand the convenience of audio recordings. Although educational programs of this nature have been available for years, CERTI has taken this format to a new level.

    Doug_Bob_a.jpgBuilt upon a radio interview format, CERTI incorporates multiple subject matter experts that bring into the virtual classroom a variety of speakers that could never be cost-effectively included in a live classroom. Many of our students have related how entertaining and comprehensive this approach is.

    CERTI does this via an advance duplexing phone system that allows multiple experts to be incorporated into the program without them having to travel to our studio. Each audio track is recorded separately to allow for full post-production editing for delivery via CD-ROM, downloadable MP3 or streaming audio. Lengthy programs are broken down into 10-15 minute clips to allow the listener to complete the course in small steps, which is especially important if a person is distracted while listening and perhaps driving, where they would only need to repeat a small section rather than an hour long presentation.

    Accompanying Manual
    Bob_Study.JPGAs part of CERTI’s philosophy of multiple educational inputs, each audio program includes an accompanying manual that contains a minimum of a single sheet for each audio section that provides key points of the section. This serves as a reinforcement of the audio lesson that one can review after or during the session. These manuals are available in print form or downloadable from CERTI’s educational site.

     

    Supportive Video/Reference Materials
    As a further educational input, CERTI often provides further reinforcement of the materials by providing short videos or animations for complex aspects of a subject and especially for demonstration of field procedures.
